In 2015, Ryan Murphy cast Powell as Chad Radwell, a character with an inflated ego, in his slasher series Scream Queens. He starred opposite Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, and Skyler Samuels. Powell's film credits include Manipulations, Everybody Wants Some!!, The Shadow Figures, The Literary Circle of Guernsey, and Apollo 10½.
In the 2018 Netflix romantic comedy Little Tricks, Powell played one of the main characters.
