Phyllis Smith

Phyllis Smith gained fame as the beloved saleswoman Phyllis Lapin on NBC's hit U.S. remake of The Office (2005-2013). Her film career took off in 2006 with roles in Jeff Garlin's indie comedy I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With, alongside Sarah Silverman and Bonnie Hunt. She later appeared in Jake Kasdan's Bad Teacher (2011) with Cameron Diaz and in Butter (2011) alongside Jennifer Garner and Hugh Jackman.
In the animated realm, Smith voiced characters in Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (2011) and achieved critical acclaim for her role as Sadness in Disney/Pixar's Inside Out (2015), winning an Annie Award for Best Voice Acting.
Her recent projects include the comedy Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar (2021) and reprising her role as Sadness in Inside Out 2 (2024), featuring a stellar cast including Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, and more.
