Ronny Chieng, a stand-up comedian of Chinese descent, was born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, and raised in New Hampshire, MA, USA, and Singapore. He pursued his education at the University of Melbourne in Australia, graduating with degrees in Commerce and Law in 2009. In 2012, Ronny Chieng was recognized by The Age as one of the top five up-and-coming acts to watch, and by the Sydney Morning Herald as one of the top ten rising comedians in Australia. The same year, he debuted his one-hour comedy special "The Ron Way" at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Sydney Comedy Festival, receiving rave reviews and earning the Best Newcomer award at MICF 2012. His shows consistently sold out, including additional performances added due to high demand. Ronny Chieng has been invited twice to perform at the prestigious invitation-only Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal (2012 & 2013), as well as at the SOHO Theatre in London's West End, where he sold out his entire two-week run. In 2013, he was once again named one of the Top Ten Hottest Comedians by The Age and the Herald Sun. He performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2013's Opening Gala, broadcast on Network Channel Ten, and at the Sydney Comedy Festival Opening Gala 2013 at the Sydney Opera House. Ronny's second one-hour comedy special, "Can You Do This? No You Can't," premiered in 2013 and sold out its 24-show season within the first week, prompting a move to a larger venue and an additional 1400-seat show at the Melbourne Town Hall Main Hall. In August 2013, Ronny received rave reviews for his show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and returned to London's SOHO Theatre for another successful run.
